The class consists of 4 evening sessions and a Sunday morning Field Test at the WCGC trap field.
The final Written Test is held on the Monday following the Field Test.

To earn a Hunter Safety Certificate you must:
attend all 4 evening sessions, and
pass BOTH the Field Test and the Written Test, and
show safety awareness AT ALL TIMES.

All evening sessions start at 6:30 pm for registration.
You MUST be on time or you will fail the class.

You'll want to be early for the first session, since registration is first-come-first-served.

Plan ahead.

You Must be on time or you will fail the class.

The Field Test will be held at the Trap Field of the Winchester Gun Club Range.
WCGC is on West Camino Cielo, about 4 miles from state highway 154.

We plan to hold the Field Test between 7am and noon on Sunday.
Usually, we have split the class into 2 groups:
the first group starts at 9:00am and the second group starts at 10:30am.
However, we may need to hold some of the field tests in the afternoon due to scheduling conflicts.

Some Questions and Answers
about the Hunter Safety Education Classes:

?Can I do the online class and then just take the regular field test?
No - they are different classes. See the web page for the online class if you want that class.

?How much does the regular class cost???
$20.

???Help!! I lost my certificate. Or my dog ate it or.....
I took the class many years ago from xxx at yyyyy.
Now I have the "the hunt of a lifetime" scheduled for Next Month.
Can you just issue me a new CERTIFICATE? Please?
NO.

(That is a negative. We will not do that.)
Here are your options:
a) Contact DFG and see if they have records of your class.
They may have records and they may be able to re-issue a certificate.
b) Find some other instructor who is able to meet your rush schedule.
c) Retake the entire regular class.
d) If you are a member of WCGC, then you might want to take
the
ONLINE class. HOWEVER, if you are in a "big hurry,"
then we probably won't be able to meet your scheduling needs.
**** Plan Ahead. ****
Take care of your certificate.

We only replace certificates for folks who took the class from us.

?What happens if I don't get there early?
The number of class seats is severely limited.

We currently plan to allow only 20 students per class.
We will select among the students who arrive on the first night of the class.

****************************************

We reserve the right to limit the class size even more depending on conditions.

****************************************

?Is there anything we need to do ahead of time to prepare for the class?
No.
Prior preparation is NOT necessary.
However, if you wish, you can review one of the online study classes.

?What if I can't make it to ALL of the class sessions?

Then, you will fail the class.
You will not be allowed to take the test.
You will not pass the class or get the certificate.

You must
attend all 10 hours of the class AND
you must pass the written test with a score of 80 or higher.
You must demonstrate ethical awareness,

and safety at all times and
competency in the field test and
the live fire shooting and ammo identification.

If you can't make it to every class session,
don't waste a seat that someone else could use.
If you can't make it to every class session,

you may want to consider one of the online class options (see links below).

If you can't make it to every class session,
you may wish to check with the California Department of Fish and Game.
There are many other instructors who offer many classes.

?What if I only score 79 on the test. Is there some way I can just retake the test?
No.
You must retake the entire class.
And, You must score 80 or higher when you retake the class.

?Oh, come on, that seems really strict - there must be some other way - what can I do??
Yes, it is strict.
Hunting is a serious activity.
But, there are many opportunities listed up above, and remember,
you only need to pass the test once to enjoy a lifetime of hunting privileges.
You may be better served by taking the online class.
Whatever you do, here is a tip:

Study.
